In Memoriam

Remembering Marian Waddy-Baucum
July 24, 2007
By Clarence Groover
Supervisor In Charge, Information Systems and Services (ISAS)

When we call the name Marian Waddy-Baucum, we think of a Howard University ISAS pioneer. Marian served the Howard University for 26 years. She was the primary resource and a key contributor to establishing the ISAS administrative procedures under six different managers that have led ISAS.

As Administrative Assistant for ISAS, her duties entailed directing daily administrative operations; coordinating administrative policy compliance ISAS-wide; and supervising contractor coordinators, office assistants, access control aides and couriers, among countless other responsibilities.

As Marian did for many others, she supported me in two of the most critical junctures in my life. First, three years ago when I lost my son in a fatal car accident, Marian was right there along with the ISAS employees and the Howard Community. It was the most difficult event that our family had ever experienced. She was warm and personable. Additionally, I found her to be very friendly, caring, kind, gentle, compassionate, composed, humble, charitable, courteous, and a woman of integrity. It was these attributes that endeared her to me and my family. Secondly, when, I was made Supervisor In Charge of ISAS, Marian came to me and pledged her support. This was important to me because in addition to expertise, it takes camaraderie and cohesiveness to succeed as an organization.

Marian was a devoted mother and wife. She often talked about her family and her one son, Tu. Her brilliant smile, bright mind, hard work, devotion to God, dedication to ISAS, love for her family, dedication to her church and community will remain her hallmarks.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our University colleague Mr. Jerry R. Williams, Assistant Director of Graphics and Printing. A Memorial Service for Mr. Williams will be held on Friday, August 3, 2007.
