DC SBDC Wins Best Practices Award

The Washington, D.C.
Small Business Development Center (DC SBDC), a
unit within the Howard University School of
Business and a partnership grant between Howard
University and the U.S. Small Business
Administration, was given a “Best Practices”
award by the District of Columbia Bar
Association.
The DC SBDC, the
District of Columbia Department of Local Small
Business Development and the District of
Columbia Bar Association’s Pro Bono Program held
seven workshops for Washington, D.C.-based
businesses on legal issues in small construction
businesses. The Bar Association recognized the
collaboration as a unique outreach effort to the
small business community involving D.C.
attorneys. The workshops were designed and
implemented by Carmen Long, associate director
for Programs at the DC SBDC. Long is an employee
of Howard University School of Business.
Through a network of
business service centers, the DC SBDC Network
provides free one-on-one counseling and at-cost
workshops to prospective and existing small
businesses on topics such as business plan
development, finance, cash flow management,
human resource issues, marketing, international
