Carmen  Long,
Associate Director, Programs

The Washington, D.C. Small Business Development Center (DC SBDC), a unit within the Howard University School of Business and a partnership grant between Howard University and the U.S. Small Business Administration, was given a “Best Practices” award by the District of Columbia Bar Association.

The DC SBDC, the District of Columbia Department of Local Small Business Development and the District of Columbia Bar Association’s Pro Bono Program held seven workshops for Washington, D.C.-based businesses on legal issues in small construction businesses. The Bar Association recognized the collaboration as a unique outreach effort to the small business community involving D.C. attorneys. The workshops were designed and implemented by Carmen Long, associate director for Programs at the DC SBDC. Long is an employee of Howard University School of Business.

Through a network of business service centers, the DC SBDC Network provides free one-on-one counseling and at-cost workshops to prospective and existing small businesses on topics such as business plan development, finance, cash flow management, human resource issues, marketing, international trade, etc. For more information, go to http://www.dcsbdc.org.
