Staff Awards & Achievements

Everett Dodson
received the “In the Know Award” for his
advocacy in the area of prostate cancer from
Prostate Net at New York University. The awards
program honors the individuals, agencies and/or
corporations that have made significant strides
in helping to eliminate health disparities
through demonstrated leadership, implementation
of innovative strategies and/or commitment in
time, energy and resources. Dodson is a clinical
research associate at the Howard University
Cancer Center. He serves as the director of
Prostate Cancer Screening; liaison of the North
Central Cancer Treatment Group Patient Advocate
Committee; coordinator for Clinical Trials and
facilitator for Community Health Education.
Ida
E. Jones, Ph.D.,
Senior Manuscript Librarian, Manuscript
Division, Moorland Spingarn Research Center
received the first Carter G. Woodson research
fellowship from Emory University. This research
fellowship will support on-site archival
research at the Manuscript, Archives, and Rare
Book Library (MARBL) in the May Miller Sullivan
and Kelly Miller papers recently purchased by
Emory University. This research visit is the
culmination of nearly four years of research
into the life of former Howard University Dean
Kelly Miller (1863-1939). Miller was a Howard
alumnus, professor and founder of the Department
of Sociology. Jones’ research will culminate in
a full length biography about Miller.

Lennon
Jackson
joins the Howard University Community as the new
director of Student Activities. Prior to Howard,
Jackson served as an assistant dean of students
in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs
at Cornell University. In this capacity, she
advised the Greek Judicial Board, Multicultural
Greek Letter Council (MGLC), and the MGLC
Cultural Programming Funding Board; served as
liaison to 25 national fraternity and sorority
chapters; and provided leadership for
departmental programs and events. Jackson has an
ME.d. in Student Affairs Practice in Higher
Education from the University of Delaware and a
B.S. in biology from Montclair State
University. She is originally from Trinidad, W.I.,
and has two daughters.
