Taylor Receives Honorary Degree from Indiana
University
Orlando Taylor, Ph.D., vice provost for Research
and dean of the Graduate School, received an
honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from
Indiana University at the spring commencement
ceremonies at Indiana University Purdue
University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
Taylor received his master's degree from Indiana
University and is a former member of the Indiana
University faculty. Taylor has been awarded
several honorary degrees: Purdue University
awarded Taylor an honorary Doctor of Letters
degree, Hope College awarded him an honorary
Doctor of Letters degree, DePauw University
awarded him a Doctor of Pedagogy degree, and The
Ohio State University will award him an honorary
Doctor of Higher Education degree at its summer
2007 commencement.
WHUR General Manager Receives Governor's Victim
Assistance Award
WHUR 96.3FM General Manager Jim Watkins received
the Governor's Victim Assistance Award on behalf
of the radio station at the 17th Annual
Governor's Victim Assistance Awards Luncheon
held in Annapolis. The event is the culmination
of Victims' Rights Week, which acknowledges the
impact of crime on victims' lives and commends
the progress Maryland has made in protecting
victims' rights.
The award was presented in honor of WHUR’s work
in helping to combat domestic violence in Prince
George’s County. WHUR has raised more than
$500,000 to help expand the only full service
shelter in the county for battered women and
their children.
Wells Joins Board of Directors for NACE
Kim R. Wells, director of the Career Services
Office (CSO) was recently voted to the
prestigious board of directors for the National
Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE).
NACE is the nation’s premier association for
career and professional development in the
campus recruitment industry and includes most
national/global employers, and the majority of
the nation’s colleges and universities.
Wells is currently the chairperson of NACE’s
National Diversity Advancement Committee. He
sees the board position as an opportunity to
develop national standards and innovation in
campus recruitment, provide insight to the needs
of diverse student populations, and develop
national and global employer partnerships for
Howard University.
