Howard University Jazz Ensemble Releases CD and Travels to Japan

The
Howard University Jazz Ensemble has released its
32nd recording, HUJE 2006. The CD, entitled
Here's To Life, is a tribute to the late
diva Shirley Horn and it also features the award
winning vocal group Afro Blue. For more

The Howard University Jazz Ensemble was invited
to Japan by the Embassy of Japan in Washington,
D.C. and Amway Japan. The group performed
concerts in Tokyo and Nagano May 28- June 3.

Faculty Member and Student Win Larry Neal
Writers’ Competition
Associate
Professor Carol A. Beane, Department of
Modern Languages and Literature, was awarded
First Place in Poetry [Adult category] in
the 24th Larry Neal Writers'
Competition. Howard University student
Cameron R. Byrd, who will begin his
sophomore year this August, was awarded
Third Place in Fiction [Teen/Young Adult
category].
The Larry Neal
Writers' Competition is held annually
through the District of Columbia Commission
on Arts and Humanities. The awards ceremony
was held May 11, 2007, at the Folger's
Shakespeare Library.
