Howard University Pharmacy
Students Take Top Prize
at International Conference

Deborah Wellington
and Stacy Ward-Charlerie, members of the
Howard University School of Pharmacy Chapter of
the American Pharmacists Association, Academy of
Students of Pharmacy (APhA-ASP), went to Taipei,
Taiwan, in August, where they attended The 53rd
International Pharmaceutical Students Federation
(IPSF) World Congress. Wellington and Ward-Charlerie
presented a poster entitled “Snapshot of
Washington, D.C.: Examining Health Insurance
Status and Disease State Management,” which was
based on their own original research. The two
senior pharmacy students competed against
students from eight other countries, taking the
top prize.
WHUR Coat Drive
WHUR will hold a coat drive on
Saturday, Oct. 6, at Iverson Mall
(3737 Branch Avenue, Hillcrest Heights, Md.).

HUCE to Host Black Author Showcase and Open House
Howard University Continuing Education, (HUCE),
in collaboration with 22nd Century
Press, will hold an open house and “Black Author
Showcase” on Friday, Oct. 19, from 4:30 – 8:30
p.m. The event is free to the public and will
feature 10 works by self-published authors from
the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and
information on HUCE course offerings including
paralegal, medical office, social work, English
as a Second Language (ESL), Arabic & Chinese
language classes, child development, computer
training and other professional development
courses. Free mini ESL classes will be held
during the event. Ideally located close to the
Silver Spring Metro Station (red line), HUCE’s
facility has several large and small rooms to
accommodate conferences, corporate meetings,
retreats, and other professional activities. For
